Middle School Mathematics through Applications (MMAP)

Middle School Mathematics
The Middle School Math through Applications Program (MMAP)
began as a curriculum development and research project. The project was a response to the crisis in mathematics education in the middle grades. Math learning plays a special role at this point in the educational process as a gatekeeper to the study of higher mathematics and science in high school and college, yet the majority of students do not complete the courses necessary to gain access to more advanced work. With the aid of funding from the National Science Foundation, the team of academics and practicing teachers developed a technology-rich, standards-based, comprehensive curriculum. The curriculum has been published commercially as Pathways to Algebra and Geometry.
