Media X conference draws industry giants
The second annual Media
X Partners Conference drew industry leaders
from around the world to an all-day immersion in innovative Stanford
research projects.
More than 200 participants listened to back-to-back five-minute presentations
from Stanford researchers before moving into break-out sessions to pursue individual
interests.
This academic year’s conference, which took place Nov. 8, included
new Media X partners Cisco, Intuit, Macromedia, Charles Schwab, Steelcase, KDDI,
GlaxoSmithKline and Boeing.
Media X is an interdisciplinary network that brings together researchers,
faculty and students to study and design interactive technology for commerce,
education
and entertainment.
Presentations ranged from Professor Jeremy Bailenson’s “Better
than being there: Augmented social interaction in virtual reality,” to “Interactive
workspaces” by Professor Terry Winograd to Professor James Fishkin’s “Deliberative
polling online: a new way to consult the public.”
SCIL’s director Roy
Pea and designer Mike
Mills led “Accelerating
the Usefulness of Video Libraries through HyperDiving,” based on their
project, DIVER.
