WILD@Stanford on April 8: Group Response System

Steve Robinson, of Educational Technology Services and a senior researcher at the University of Minnesota, discussed the Discourse group response platform and its ability to transform the passivity that characterizes many American classrooms into a participative learning environment. Discourse was developed to break the bottleneck of communication in the typical one-to-many teaching situation, with features that allow whole-class, independent and small group teaching; real-time assessment and feedback to open and closed-ended responses; and management of media, such as the Internet.

WILD@Stanford is a special interest group that includes faculty, researchers, and students on campus and throughout the Bay Area who use Wireless Internet Learning Devices to improve teaching and learning. WILD@Stanford is directed by Roy Pea, director of SCIL and professor of education and the learning sciences.

The next WILD@Stanford meeting will be held on May 13. These events are open to the public; new members are welcome.
