Assessment in Gaming and Civil Engineering

The SIG:Assessment met Tuesday April 1 to consider two case studies and the challenges and opportunities they offer.

Case Study 1: Gaming Systems
Pete Antoniak, inventor of EduGames, demonstrated the highly interactive, easy-to-use EduGames, an internet-based, open-ended knowledge-based game system with authoring and assembly tools that allow teachers to assemble games and use assessment tools to maximize the “game” experience. Possible business models and content development were discussed.

Virtual Design and Construction
John Kunz, executive director of Stanford's Center for Integrated Facility Engineering and senior research engineer in the Symbolic Systems program, described "Virtual Design and Construction," a set of new modeling and visualization tools and methods. Kunz discussed the high-level theoretical framework, the initial groping effort to create a systematic assessment process for the framework, and the preliminary results.
